Here comes something different!
If you've not yet tried decoding the DGPS beacons that make those weird
noises around 300 kHz, now is your chance to discover a fascinating new
part of our great hobby.
If you have decoded DGPS stations in a previous Co-ordinated Listening
Event, it will be like re-visiting an old friend!
 
This will be our sixth DGPS event (the fifth was CLE130 at the end of April
2010).
 
Alan has set up all the advice you may need about the DGPS stations and
how to decode their signals - you will find it by going to our information
page: http://www.ndblist.info/ and select the DGNAV List Section.
 
Days: Friday 24 February - Monday 27 February
Times: Midday to Midday, your local time
Range: 283.5 - 325.0 kHz (inclusive)
 
Log any DGPS beacons that you can identify in the range, plus any DGPS
UNIDs that you may come across.
 
Alan's comprehensive advice includes details of the programs that you can
use to decode the DGPS signals. We continue to recommend DSCdecoder
which is easy to install and use and it works well. It can be downloaded and
used without charge for a period of 21 days.
If you have tried DSCdecoder before but not registered it, I understand from
Bev that downloading a new version will probably allow trial use again until
after the CLE.
 
This Early Advice is a bit earlier than usual to give listeners who are not
familiar with decoding plenty of time to get ready.
 
As well as Alan's Database, showing all the known and planned stations, the
Rxx database has a DGPS section containing details of all reception reports.
The results from the previous DGPS CLEs are available in the CLE archives
via the CLE page.
 
## This Listening Event is for both the NDB List and the DGNAV List.
This advice is going to both Lists, and so will my 'Final Details' and the
Combined Results after the event, etc.
If you are a Member of DGNAV List, please continue to post to that list.
If you are ONLY a Member of NDB List please post any DGPS logs to
NDB List (including any trial sessions before the CLE).
 
Whichever List(s) you belong to, do give the event a try. Many NDB List
members have 'discovered' the DGPS mode from our five earlier CLEs
and found it fascinating.
Any DGNAV List members who haven't enjoyed a CLE before can discover
the value of sharing some co-ordinated 'listening' and comparing their
results with others - in a constructive, non-competitive way!
 
Please look out for my 'Final Details' email, which will follow a few days
before the CLE.
