CLE 214
17.12.16 - 19:09:50

Hi all

We’re now only a week or so away from our Holiday Listening Event.

This will be a challenging but a fun CLE based on an original idea
from Alan, ideal for dipping into during gaps between the festivities.
But BEWARE! - you may find that, having started, it's hard to stop!

It is a "Noah's Ark" CLE – last used in CLE125, way back in 2009.
Just as the animals went into the ark two by two, so the Radio
Countries' beacons will go into our logs two by two.
In other words, during the course of the event we each try to log
TWO NDBs from as many radio countries as we can, local and DX.
e.g. 2 from Germany, 2 from Spain, 2 from Russia (Eu),
2 from Quebec Province, 2 from California, 2 from Florida, .. . .

Days: Sunday 25th December to Monday 2nd January
Times: Start and End at midday, your LOCAL TIME
Target: A maximum of TWO NDBs from each Radio Country
Range: 190 - 1740 kHz

Our Radio Countries are all listed in the Website.
Please see http://www.ndblist.info/beacons/countrylist.pdf
Note that each Australian and USA State and each Canadian Province
is a separate radio country.
The two making each pair can be logged at any times during the event.
No Amateur, DGPS or Navtex beacons, please.

Noah didn't have single animals in the Ark, but if you can only log one
NDB from a Country, it will still be welcome in your log without a mate!
If many of us in our different locations all only hear the same, single,
beacon in a country, it is likely to be because that is its only active
beacon - something that we are seldom able to test.

This is an ideal event to help you qualify for one or more of Joe Miller's
attractive Award Certificates - they make great "wallpaper" for any
listening shack. Joe, our Awards Coordinator, invites us to submit
requests. http://www.ndblist.info/awards.htm  will take you to our
web pages containing the advice you will need and any questions
can be directed to Joe at kj8o.ham(at)gmail.com

Please look out for my full ‘Final Details’ about the CLE in a few days.
That will include advice about finding NDBs to target in each country,
how to present your log, etc.

Good listening

HOLIDAY CLE214 - FINAL DETAILS
Posted by: "Brian Keyte" 9sm(at)waitrose.com g3sia
Date: Wed Dec 21, 2016 9:53 am ((PST))

Hello all

I hope you are looking forward to our "Noah's Ark" Holiday CLE - it starts
at midday on Christmas Day and you can listen at any times from then
right through to midday on Monday 2nd January.
It's very straightforward. Just as the animals went into the ark two by two,
so the Radio Countries' NDBs will go into our logs two by two.

Days:     Sunday 25th December to Monday 2nd January
Times:    Start and End at midday, your LOCAL TIME
Target:   A maximum of TWO NDBs from each Radio Country
    Range:   190 - 1740 kHz

So during the course of the event we shall try to log TWO NDBs from each
of as many Radio Countries as we can  - e.g. 2 from France, 2 from Spain,
2 from the Florida, 2 from Quebec, 2 from Brazil, 2 from New Zealand, etc.
Each Australian and USA State and each Canadian Province is a separate
Country.  For our full list see:  www.ndblist.info/beacons/countrylist.pdf
The two making each pair can be logged at any times during the event.
UNIDs, Amateur, DGPS and Navtex beacons are not included.

Noah didn't have single animals in the Ark, but if you can only log one NDB
from a Country, it will still be welcome in your log without a mate!

Please include your own NEAREST NDB HEARD (not making a triplet).

For details of active NDBs in a country go to www.classaxe.com/dx/ndb/rww/
and next to 'Locations' enter the State or Country abbreviation(s), then
select 'Only Active' at the bottom.

Please post your log to the List with CLE214 in the Subject heading (use
Plain Text if you can and not in an attachment) to arrive at the very latest
by 09:00 UTC on Wednesday 4th January.
If you send interim logs, please also send a 'Final' (complete) log.

As usual, please include on every line of your log:
  #  Date** and UTC  (The day changes at 00:00 UTC)
  #  kHz (the nominal, published, frequency if possible)
  #  Call Ident.

Those main log items must be shown FIRST with the country shown
LATER in the same line, together with any other (optional) details
such as location, offset and distance.

** IMPORTANT:   If you use the simple 'dd' date format, the input program
for REU/RNA/RWW does not allocate the month and year.  The good people
who enter the information for us then have to tell the program what month
and year to use. That is not a problem IF ALL LOGGINGS FOR THE SAME MONTH
ARE GROUPED TOGETHER.  So please help us by making sure you separate
your December and January loggings, even if it breaks up some Noah pairs.

Where possible, I suggest that we show our logs in Radio Country order
instead of in the usual kHz order, so that the pairs appear together.
(If you log more than two NDBs from any country, or
any UNIDs, please keep the extra ones in a separate
'non-CLE' part of your log, or in a separate email).

I'll send an ANY MORE LOGS? email at about 18:00 UTC on Tuesday 3rd
January showing whose logs I have found. Try to post your log to the List
before that so you will get confirmation that it has arrived OK.

Good listening, everyone.  Enjoy the CLE.
And finally, radio or not, have a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

      Brian

Reminder 1:
This is an ideal event to help you qualify for one or more of Joe Miller's
attractive Award Certificates - they make great "wallpaper" for any
listening shack.  Joe, our Awards Coordinator, invites us to submit
requests.   http://www.ndblist.info/awards.htm  will take you to the
different web pages containing the advice you will need  and any
questions can be directed to Joe at kj8o.ham(at)gmail.com

Reminder 2:
You could use any one remote receiver for your loggings, stating its
location and owner - with their permission if required.
A remote listener may NOT also use another receiver, whether local
or remote, to obtain further loggings for the same CLE.

(If you've forgotten the details of Noah and his Ark, like me you
might enjoy a few minutes reading Genesis from Chapter 6,
verse 12, to the first verse of Chapter 9 - interesting homework!)

Re: CLE 214
Vastaus #4 - 21.02.17 - 07:17:44

Here it is then – my best shot at a harvester-free set of initial results for Europe listeners.

It was done by manual checking and counting, so it may contain a few reporting errors
that the programs would have found and, more likely, other mistakes that I’ve made.
(Please let me know of anything that looks significantly wrong).

Eventually, when most of us have almost forgotten the Noah Listening, I hope to send
the usual full set of results.

Similar ‘Starter Results’ for Rest of the World will follow later today.

Despite the delay in making the full combined results, there are a few things about the
Noah listening that I have already noted for a ‘Coordinator’s Comments’ - I hope to send
that in a day or two.
