Kari, I have no own experience to talk about but I recommend you to
study a very long research article at
http://www.borderlands.com/newstuff/research/FelixRadio/FelixRadio.htm Somewhere I have read or heard that with antennas on or even buried a
bit under the ground you will loose QSA but gain QRK. And that's what
really counts.

Definitely!
I have used both BOG and LWOG in many occations with great sucess. Just
roll it out and let the snow hide it! Maybe a little less signal
compared to a usual lw/bev. but the s/n ratio is often better and the
lobes of the antenna slightly more narrow. It is also possible to get a
2-way antenna if you use a coax-BOG with transformers at each end and
endfeed with two feeder-coaxes.Been using such the last seasons aimed
at 90/270 degrees, with a lot of NA/caribbean logs as a result. A good
low-noise preamp is recommended for daytime DX, such as the W7IUV
which can be found here:

I have done some tests with BOG's with surprisingly results! Normally the
impecdance is very high, 500-800 Ohm, so a balun 1:10 is a good idea. The
BOG antenna is a really a directional-antenna with a very low noice. Try it
and you'll love it!
It's easy to put out a couple of hundreds metres wire.
Very Best,
Lennart
