It's high time for our 172nd Co-ordinated Listening Event.

Last December/January our main holiday CLE was a 'Pyramid' one.
Running at the same time, 25 of us enjoyed our first CLE using the
University of Twente Radio Club receiver and its high mini-whip aerial
at Enschede in The Netherlands.
For CLE172 we are invited again to listen via the Internet for NDBs audible
from there.

Days: Friday 26th July - Monday 29 July
Times: Midday on Friday to midday on Monday, YOUR local time
QRG: Normal LF/MF frequencies (190 - 1740 kHz)
NDBs: A MAXIMUM of 50 normal NDBs (not DGPS, Navtex, Amateur)

If you want to show more than 50 NDBs in your log, please choose the
most interesting ones (maybe the most DX) and show those FIRST in a
separate group of 50.
The remaining loggings will NOT appear in the Combined Results.

It is easy to access this excellent receiver via the Web. Just enter
http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ into your browser. In seconds you
will be given details of the receiver and how to use it.
( If you don't have Java installed in your PC it will tell you - it is
easily downloaded in a few minutes from www.java.com ).

Here are some Q&As about our use of the Twente University receiver:

1. Can several of us all listen at the same time?
Yes. There are usually over 100 listeners from round the World,
each using it at the same time as though they are the only one!

2. Do I have to register or 'log in'?
No. Just use it! If you wish you can type an identification in the
'Name or Callsign' box. (I'll use 'NDB bk')

3. What settings can be used to get started?
Try these:
In the Frequency box type 407.5 (kHz)
Under Waterfall: select "max in"
Under Bandwidth: select "CW - wide"
You should then hear (and see) the upper offset of 406.5 BOT.
Give it a try right now?

4. How will each listener appear separately in the Combined Results?
Results will all be treated as from HOL. ( e.g. Alan in ENG would be
'HOL ag', Bob in AZ would be 'HOL bc', Chuck in TX would be
'HOL ch', etc. )

IMPORTANT: Please also read my 'Final Details' email which will follow
in two or three days.

Good listening
Brian
