Aihe: CLE 158 Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 04.06.12 - 13:13:00 Hi All Coming soon will be a curious and really special Listening Event - your chance to 'do your own thing' in an area of the hobby that really matches your own particular interests. For the June CLE each year, it is difficult to choose an event that works well with the Northern Hemisphere's short nights and often high QRN. So here's something completely different, where you can choose your own challenge - and probably interest many of us in what you've done. (New listeners and 'down-unders' are certainly not excluded). The overall 'rules' will only be: Log anything 'beaconing' with Morse in the range 190 - 1740 kHz during the CLE period, 29 June - 2 July, midday to midday local time. No more than 100 loggings - but that is NOT a target to reach. Here are some examples of what you could choose: An unusual kind of listening (a different QTH or aerial or receiver, portable, from a boat, .. . ) Beacons of a certain kind (local to you, or DX, or on islands, offshore, one radio country, .. . ) Beacons showing any kinds of technical fault. You could visit the NDBs in your area, logging them and taking pictures where possible. Try the much improved reception from the coast (with long wire, mini-whip, etc.). Try listening using suitable ready-made long wires - fences, etc. - from car or 'portable'. A personal challenge, such as NDBs in radio countries bordering yours, but not in yours, only during daylight hours. Something involving the YL / XYL. There must be many interesting possibilities. Some of our way-out ideas might even lead to future CLEs in their own right. No - this one is not really a 'Co-ordinated' Listening Event, but 'Curious' it WILL be. Definition of CURIOUS: "Eager to learn more. Arousing interest because of novelty or strangeness. Peculiar". In the Combined Results, I will try to show the variety of approaches used, highlighting the individual ideas chosen and their successes. What will you choose? (Do feel free, if you wish, to share your ideas with me or with all of us. Whatever you choose, do make sure that you are safe and legal). 73 Brian |
