Aihe: NAVTEX CLE 141 Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 16.03.11 - 19:44:56 Hi all Our fifth Navtex CLE is coming soon: CLE141: Days: Thursday 24th March - Tuesday 29th March Times: Start and end at midday, local time QRG: 490kHz , 518 kHz, 424 kHz, 4209.5 kHz (plus other HF frequencies (6314, 8416.5, 12579, 16806.5 .. . ) Note that we are adding an EXTRA 24 hours both at the start and at the end. With five nights instead of three, it should allow us to cover the different frequencies adequately. You will find all you need to know about the Navtex stations and decoders from the NDB List Website http://www.ndblist.info/ ( or go direct to http://www.ndblist.info/navtex.htm ). It includes a Database of present and planned stations and how to download and use a decoder program. Some good decoders are freely available including the excellent new YaND decoder and the popular SeaTTY which can be used without charge for a trial period. Various receiver settings work well - I use USB setting with a fairly wide IF filter and I set my receiver 2 kHz lower than the frequency of interest e.g. to 516.0 for 518 kHz. (Or, with CW setting, set your receiver to the actual Navtex frequency and BFO to +2 kHz) You can find full advice on decoding from the link given above (or you may find my simple introduction helpful to get you started - see below). Members' Navtex reports are included in REU/RNA/RWW, also reached via http://www.ndblist.info/ Our fourth Navtex CLE was in August 2009. Please look out for the Final Details a few days before the CLE starts. ## This Listening Event is for both the NDB List and the new NAVTEX DX List. This advice is going to both Lists, and so will my 'Final Details' and the Combined Results after the event, etc. If you are a Member of NAVTEX DX, please continue to post to that list. If you are ONLY a Member of NDB List please post any NAVTEX CLE logs to NDB List (including any trial sessions before the CLE). Whichever List(s) you belong to, do give the event a try. Many NDB List members have 'discovered' the NAVTEX mode from our four earlier CLEs and found it fascinating. Any NAVTEX DX members who haven't taken part in a CLE before can discover the value of comparing their results with the rest of us - in a constructive, non-competitive way! Good Navtexing Brian |

Aihe: Re: NAVTEX CLE 141 Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 02.04.11 - 08:25:04 Hi all Here I am, a bit later than expected (the man came to insulate my roof space this afternoon - a day early!) The combined results tables from NAVTEX CLE141 are attached as CLE141navtex5.xls. Soon they will also be available from the CLE page http://www.ndblist.info/cle.htm or via http://www.ndblist.info/ 33 Reporters 56 Radio Countries received 139 Navtex Stations identified Of the 33 reporters, 14 posted their logs to Navtex DX List and the other 19 were (probably) NDB List only members. 32 reporters took part in our last Navtex CLE, so we've gone one better! As in previous Navtex CLEs, the 'P' decodes on 4209.5 kHz from Area 11 in the Far East were very difficult to allocate among the Stations thought to be using 'P'. After spending a long time trying to reconcile them among themselves and with the various databases, in the end I had to give up and show all of them as Chi-lung (Keelung), as stated in most of the logs. I hope the few listeners who tried to distinguish between the various $11Ps will forgive me. Also, some station locations may not be known with high accuracy). Many thanks to all who took part and my special thanks to Alan for his advice and help and to Dirk for easing me into the Navtex DX List. Our first Combined CLE (NDB List + Navtex DX List) seemed to go very well - we must do it again! A few comments caught my eye in the logs so, to end on a mostly light-hearted note, I thought I'd reproduce them below. NDB List will be back to a 'normal' CLE for No.142, probably during the Easter weekend. Meanwhile, good listening Brian ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Brian Keyte G3SIA ndbcle'at'gmail.com Location: Surrey, SE England (CLE co-ordinator) ---------------------------------------------------------- I was really surprised at just how well 16 and 22 MHz were propagating at times, and with the MUF getting higher as Solar Cycle 24 progresses these bands could offer lots of interesting catches. Lots of static and my local noise 'factory' was going full tilt this weekend making reception above 3 MHz pretty sloppy. Thanks to all coordinators for 'forcing me' - ha! - into another facet of listening. La Maddalena's signal is quite potent - whenever it appears! It was good fun again changing frequencies as per schedule and being curious on checking logs in the morning. An interesting event and especially nice to the ears! No mariner could use my very poor 1-2% clear text decodes. - - - But since we're just looking for DX and not weather reports, just a brief ident is all it takes for a logging, and that's mostly all that I got. :) A combination of wild activity (debugging a new NAVTEX decoder, fixing the preamp blown by Wednesday night's thunderstorms, looking for stations on six frequencies) and idle waiting (everything's ready --- where are the signals?) Put all other interesting listening aside and heard all the days only Navtex. Had fun looking for stations on HF! I used 2 setups here so I could catch them on various freq's on the same schedule. Came in handy! Managed to catch some TAs, most for the first time. Printed Portpatrick 5 times over the weekend including a 9-minute message almost error free, like a local. Another interesting CLE! More stations logged on HF than LF - Lots of long winded 518 kHz Wx forecasts block the DX! Nice conditions, some interesting first timers and 5 good nights sleep! It is a bit like deep sea trawling where you put the net down and leave for a number of hours and then come back to see the catch. I hadn't seriously monitored Navtex since CLE 120... well, how rusty one quickly gets ! I'm glad we continue to dabble in data modes occasionally. Lots of fun. Being a newbie I don't understand what CLE is. Could someone explain? (I often feel like that too!) |
