Aihe: CLE128 (CLE129, CLE130, CLE131) Kirjoittaja RKA Pvm 21.02.10 - 10:51:35 Hi all Here are some provisional dates for the next three CLEs: CLE128 March 5th - 8th This is a week later than originally planned ... CLE129 April 2nd - 6th This is Easter weekend, so we shall also be a week 'late'. CLE130 April 30th - May 3rd Probably a DGPS CLE, our 5th. I'll try to keep to these dates, but might need to change one or more of them. For CLE131 and beyond, we should mostly be back to the usual last weekend of the month. The 'Early Advice' about CLE128 should appear next weekend. Good listening Brian ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Brian Keyte G3SIA cle'at'beaconworld.org.uk Location: Surrey, SE England (CLE co-ordinator) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Aihe: Re: CLE128 (CLE129, CLE130, CLE131) Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 27.02.10 - 20:36:06 Hi all, Our 128th Co-ordinated Listening Event starts in a few days. As always, 'first time' CLE logs are very welcome as well as the logs from regulars: Days: Friday 5th March - Monday 8th March Times: Start and end at midday LOCAL TIME Range: 385.0 - 399.9 kHz It will be interesting to compare our results with those from CLE110 in October 2008 when we last had a close look at this frequency range - did you take part in that one? (see the list below). Please log all NDBs you can identify that are listed in the range (it includes 385 kHz but not 400 kHz) plus any UNIDs that you find there. As usual, I'll send the final details about two days before the start. Good listening Brian |

Also, a few NDB locations are not known with high accuracy.) We listened in the same frequency range in October 2008. You will find the table comparing statistics THEN and NOW at the end of the Excel tables. The average results for the 21 listeners who took part in both events show a definite improvement. Individual and average results are also shown for the other 12 listeners. I hope to complete the Rest of the World results later today and, after that, I think this CLE was again special enough to justify a few 'Co-ordinator's Comments'. Aihe: Re: CLE128 (CLE129, CLE130, CLE131) Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 11.03.10 - 19:37:03 Hi all The weekend's listening event was called a 'normal' one - just listening within a narrow frequency range - but it turned out to be abnormal in several ways. So here are a few extra comments about it. CONDITIONS: These were very good for most listeners, with reports of: San Andres Island (SW Caribbean) logged by several Europe listeners and from Hawaii. Pakistan beacons logged by two Europe listeners. Japan logged from Oregon. A Chinese beacon logged by Europe listeners. DDP in PTR (NE Caribbean) heard by 22 listeners from over 5,000 km. Remarkably, the furthest of all the loggings during the event (9,413 km, 5,849 miles) was of DDP from Hawaii - Mike using his 1-MOSFET regen. The average statistics showed better results than we achieved 17 months ago when we covered the same frequency range. That's probably due to better conditions, more use of SDR recorders like Perseus, and we're all getting better anyway - aren't we? We can't hold out much longer against the increasing sunspots, but there are often some nice surprises even at the peak of the sunspot cycle. LISTENERS: The number of logs from this event (and also from CLE127) was among the highest, showing the popularity of 'normal' events - especially when conditions are good! This time the logs from two listeners brought their total to 100 CLEs. Congratulations to Dave T and to Zdenek - welcome to the CLE Century Club! 50 MORE YEARS OF NDBs? Comparing our results with the equivalent ones from Oct 2008 suggests that overall we have 'lost' about 12 or 13 NDBs and gained about 4 over the last 16 months. That's a net loss of around 8 or 9 beacons from the total of 314 logged in the range - or a loss of about 2% per annum. (Many thanks to Don for the more detailed feedback he sends us on the lists of apparently 'Lost' and 'New' beacons). At that rate it will be about 50 years before they are all gone - but of course it doesn't work like that! 'UNUSUAL' LOGS It's always specially good to see logs made in more unusual ways and from unusual places: Mile T, "Just for fun listened for nearly 2 hours at a portable location on the sea front at Cullercoats during the CLE and was pleasantly surprised with results and found it very interesting and worthwhile." Torre's log was made "At the 6th floor in our apartment in Helsinki, with the Roelof´s Miniwhip-antenna on the balcony". Jean reported: "On Saturday night the telescopic fishing pole I use as an antenna mast treacherously collapsed just after I confidently fell asleep.." And for Ken: "This weekend I was at a DXpedition" site . . between Howell, Pinckney and Brighton, Michigan USA". Not 'unusual', but Bob's log from Tasmania is always very welcome in keeping the flag flying from 'down under'. It would be great if we could attract new listeners from other parts of the World where the beacons go mostly unheard! If you are looking forward to our coming listening events - or tempted to try one out for the first time - the provisional plans are still: CLE129 April 2nd - 6th Details to be decided. This is Easter weekend, so we shall be a week 'late' (most listeners voted for synchronising CLEs with holiday weekends, where practicable). CLE130 April 30th - May 3rd Probably a DGPS CLE, our 5th. Good listening Brian |
