Aihe: CLE107 Kirjoittaja OH5YW Pvm 23.07.08 - 17:07:34 Hi all MIDDAY 'CHALLENGE' EVENT How many normal NDBs can you log around midday? For your personal target, please see the list at the end. Listening around midday is a good way to check our listening stations and to find out if changes really have made improvements in reception. Or maybe you could try the CLE listening from a 'field' location instead of (or as well as!) from home? Days: Fri. 25 July - Mon. 28 July Times: Within 2 hours of when the sun is highest (see below) QRG: 190 - 1740 kHz NDBs Normal ones only, including any UNIDs (not DGPS, Navtex or Amateur please). ### IMPORTANT ## If your house clocks have moved one hour forward for 'summer time' (or 'daylight saving'), your listening times each day will be BETWEEN 11 IN THE MORNING and 3 IN THE AFTERNOON (15:00) on your LOCAL clocks. If your clocks were NOT changed, as in Arizona for example, or everywhere in the Southern Hemisphere where it is now mid-winter, your times each day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (The above matches our agreed definition for daytime listening -see below*) Of course, all our logs will show UTC times, as always. The usual simple log-making 'rules' apply: Post your CLE log to the List in a plain text email if possible please, with CLE107 at the start of its title, showing on each log line: # The Day No.(or full date) and UTC (the day changes at 00:00 UTC). # kHz - the nominal published frequency, if known. # The Call Ident. Please show these main log items FIRST, with any other details such as location and distance LATER in the same line. Don't forget to give your own location and brief details of your equipment. It also makes good reading if you add your thoughts on the CLE and any amusing events that happened during it. I will send the usual 'Any More Logs?' email at about 17:00 UTC on Wednesday so you can check that your log has been found OK. Do make sure that your log has arrived on the list by 08:00 UTC next Thursday, 31st July, at the very latest. The combined results should be completed later that day. As usual, you can get further helpful information about this and past CLEs via Alan's 'Beaconworld' information pages. Good listening Brian ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Brian Keyte G3SIA cle'at'beaconworld.org.uk Location: Surrey, SE England (CLE co-ordinator) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *NDBLIST DAYTIME DEFINITION (Approved 28 Aug 2003) For CLE and Awards purposes, 'Standard Daytime' is defined as spanning the two hours before and after noon during WINTER TIME in the listener's particular time zone. This definition is chosen to minimise the incidence of greyline propagation affecting reception of distant stations. These four hours should be expressed as UTC, and then used throughout the year. No adjustment should be made in respect of any 'Daylight Savings Time' changes applied in your region during the summer months, to avoid sudden changes in conditions whenever seasonal clock changes might be applied. ------------------------------------ Here are the targets. If your name is missing and you plan to join in, or if you hope to listen away from your normal home site, please tell me the location ( cle'at'beaconworld.org.uk ) and I'll let you know your target. As always, any first-time CLE logs will be extra welcome. The targets marked with a '-' are affected by several North Sea/Norwegian Sea offshore NDBs, many of which are likely to be inactive during the CLE. However those listeners are likely to benefit from longer distance daytime reception along other over-sea paths. Targets shown with a '(?)' are tentative, due to incomplete NDB details in my database. A general 'rule' like that cannot be fair for everyone's situation, but I think it gives reasonable targets to aim at. Of course we shall be logging ALL normal NDBs heard (including UNIDs), some of us exceeding their target and others not reaching it, but there can be no 'failure' for anyone who has enjoyed taking part! ------------------------------------ |
